WWIR: MAY 11 through MAY 17, 2008 (what month is it, again?)

NB: Came up with lame-but-at-least-not-comical title. Found my ending in Mistah Hilliard’s “issue.” Spit-shined the whole thing. Wrote cover letter. (Incidentally, summarizing 15,000 words in 5 sentences is a whole lot easier than doing same for 100,000. Surprise!) (And it is precisely 15,000 words. It got up to 15,227, but that was an easy trim.) Shot it off to the NB people. Yes, that’s right: subbed. As in, about 5 minutes ago. Now to fuggedabowdit and gitonwitsumpinelse.

(Oh, crap, you mean now I have to actually work on one of those huge-heartbreaking-investment-of-time-and-energy things again? Anyone else up for a trip to the liquor store?)

(I don’t drink, but the alcoholism gene triggers a calming effect if I hang out around large quantities of booze.)

(Actually, this story contains evidence of my being a series whore. I refuse to devote any more time to it at this point, but in the event somebody didn’t think it was utter garbage, I could probably crank out two more of these little puppies.)

(I just wanted to use parentheses again.)

SC1: Refreshed my memory about the 2 chapters I already have. Heroine is a bitter, soulless bundle of wrath. For some odd reason, I look forward to working with her again…

  1. Trish is SO pretty.

If you hadn’t had me all along, “pickles and dead cow” would have sealed the deal. That is dead sexy.

    :monkeyhysteria:

Please, Lord, let these people have some sense.

For those not in the know, “pickles and dead cow” is a “vampires think your eating habits are gross, too” reference.

Perhaps it should be: Please, Lord, let these people have some sense… of humor.

  3. Trish is SO pretty.

What is the title, btw? I only remember the beverage-out-the-nose suggestions.

  4. Kerry Allen is SO pretty.

I’d rather not say. I tried to capitalize on the apparent fondness for the word “dark,” which was fitting, given fangboy’s visual impairment, but I’m not married to it and would dump it in a heartbeat if anything else was suggested.

If the story ends up moving back in with mama here, I guess you’ll find out then…

  5. Selah March is SO pretty.

Congrats on having the cojones to hit “send.” I’m still working up to it.

Actually, I’m still writing the damned story. THEN I’ll start working up to it. Maybe. :notme:

    Dooooooooo eeeeeeeeeet.
    Dooooooooo eeeeeeeeeet!
    Dooooooooo eeeeeeeeeet!!!

My cojones (which are lovely, by the way) didn’t have to show themselves for this one, actually. It was only 2 weeks of work, which is throwaway compared to a novel, and it’s not like all my hopes and dreams were pinned to it, so there’s not a lot of associated anxiety.

The detachment might also have something to do with having somebody else’s requirements in mind while I wrote it, instead of writing it for me and crossing my fingers that it has wider appeal. It doesn’t feel so much like my “baby”—more like I’m a surrogate mama—carry it for a while, then pass it off to someone else to deal with long term. We’ll have to wait and see if that’s a good or bad thing.

I feel pretty good for accomplishing something, though, so I have that positive momentum to get me into the next project. It was like a little spring cleaning for the writing sector.

  7. Selah March is SO pretty.

See, I’m having trouble with that very aspect–constantly second-guessing myself, re-reading the guidelines, reading the current release and comparing/contrasting my own work…

To sum up, my cojones might be lovely, too, but the world will never know because they’re MICROSCOPIC.
